World’s second largest standing army has an extensive list of its victories over the time like Indo-pak war of 1947, 1965 or Bangladesh Liberation War of 1971. Even in the peace keeping operations in many war affected countries of the world, Indian Army got praised for completing some toughest tasks successfully. This is not just another historical article on Indian Army but this is to illustrate one more mission some Army men vowed to complete it effectively.

This unofficial mission is to make a virtual land for citizens and army personnel where they can discuss openly on all internal and external issues related to army, army culture, national and international politics and current issues.

Orkut.com a social networking site where there are many communities related to Army of India. Indian Army is most active and popular community with dedicated team of moderators and a huge numbers of active members. More interestingly, the history and background of Indian Army community can easily pull anybody towards it.

Like borders of India, enemies didn’t even left the virtual world to attack Indians and Indian Army, one such incident also occurred to Indian Army community when a renowned Pakistani hacker on orkut successfully hacked the Indian Army community and took the control over it from the original owner. But once again as usual enemies didn’t perfectly calculated the force Indians have which lead them to a failure when Indian Army community members got united and started their operation to get back their lost virtual land. Finally, one serving army officer rumncola took the control over Indian Army community on orkut, although he prefers to call himself as only a caretaker of Indian Army community but also uphold equally a good reputation among members and moderators of the community.

Indian Army an online community on orkut.com has some very significant and remarkable aims. Shiwain, an army officer and also a moderator of Indian Army community described the aims of the Indian Army community like:

To make the general public AWARE about the existence of the Army in “flesh-and-blood” than merely just a ghostly-cocooned-figure they read in the papers!

To clear various misnomers/myths surrounding our Army and their traditions and

To discuss each and every important topic thread-bare, especially the current internal & global socio-political issues that crop up everyday.

Shiwain added, Indian Army community try and inculcate an important bond among all members, a bond of friendship & mutual respect & try and learn an important facet of life — To recognize each other’s responsibilities and importance in today’s symbiotic environment.

Over 50,000 members, Indian army is not only a popular online platform to interact with army men and citizens but also a better place for those youths who are desperate to join army can get some very reliable advices and free counseling by army personnel about career in Army, the way to enter in exams and all required standards physically and medically. Army officers of the online community also help them in preparation for their SSB interviews by giving them valuable tips. Indian Army community on orkut was created on Nov 15, 2004 and since then there is a strong base of members providing resource, information and sharing some lighter moments with citizens and men in uniform which unsurprisingly made a strong bond of friendship and respect between them.
